Ten minutes into the second half Pelé controlled the ball in the penalty area, lifted it over a defender and volleyed it in. Zagallo made it 4–1. Agne Simonsson scored for Sweden, and in the last minute Pelé headed the fifth.
At 17 years and 249 days, Pelé became the youngest player to appear in, score in and win a World Cup final. At the final whistle he collapsed on the pitch, then wept on the shoulder of goalkeeper Gilmar.
