Celeste Arantes
Celeste Arantes (1922–2024), known as Dona Celeste, Pelé's mother, who outlived him by nearly two years.
Celeste Arantes was born in Três Corações and married Dondinho there. They had three children: Edson (Pelé), Jair (Zoca) and Maria Lúcia. She did not want her sons to become footballers, because she knew how unsettled the life was. She was 100 when Pelé died and died herself in June 2024, aged 101.
