Santos 7–1 Corinthians de Santo André
Pelé's first match for Santos, aged 15, in which he scored the first goal of his senior career.
On 7 September 1956, Brazil's Independence Day, Santos played a friendly against Corinthians de Santo André in Santo André. Pelé was 15 and had signed for the club that June.
Santos won 7–1, and Pelé scored one of the goals. It was the first goal of his senior career. The opposing goalkeeper, Zaluar, later described himself on his business card as the man who let in Pelé's first goal.
The next season Pelé was a regular in the Santos team, and at 16 he was the top scorer in the Campeonato Paulista.
Santos were the reigning state champions, having won the Campeonato Paulista in 1955 and 1956. Pelé had joined them after a trial at Vila Belmiro, where he impressed the coach, Lula. The match itself was a minor friendly, but it is remembered as the start of a career that lasted more than twenty years.
