Sport Lisboa e Benfica were European champions in 1961 and 1962, with Eusébio in attack. In the 1962 Intercontinental Cup, Santos won 3–2 in Rio and 5–2 in Lisbon. Pelé scored twice in the first leg and three times in the second.
