Czechoslovakia drew 0–0 with Brazil in 1962, the match in which Pelé was injured and lost for the tournament. They met Brazil again in the 1962 final and lost 3–1. In 1970 they opened Brazil's tournament in Guadalajara; Brazil won 4–1, Pelé scored, and he nearly scored from his own half against goalkeeper Ivo Viktor.
